Labor and Employment Research Fund Call for Proposals

The Labor and Employment Research Fund (LERF) is a multi-campus University of California research program devoted to studying labor and employment issues in California and the nation. It is a component of the Miguel Contreras Labor Institute and is administered by the Office of Research at the UC Office of the President. The mission of the LERF is to encourage rigorous and relevant academic research that can help address public policy problems in this area by increasing our understanding of their causes and possible solutions.

Pending receipt of funding from the state budget, the Labor and Employment Research Fund will accept proposals for the following grant program categories:

Faculty: (includes UC Principal Investigators)
· Research and data generation grants
· Workshop, planning and conference grants

Graduate Students:
· Doctoral Dissertation Fellowships
· Thesis Fellowships
· Mini-Grants

State funding will be confirmed later in the summer. In the meantime, interested applicants may begin developing their proposals. Please see the Call for Proposals for details and program requirements. The program application will be accessible in August 2008.

The application deadline will be Friday, October 10, 2008. Proposals will be reviewed in November and awards will be announced in mid-December.

Microsoft Research and Microsoft Live Labs PhD Fellowship Program and Microsoft Research Graduate Women's Scholarship Program

The Microsoft Research and Microsoft Live Labs PhD Fellowship Program will begin accepting applications on Monday, August 18, 2008. The deadline for applications is Friday, October 17, 2008. Applicants must be enrolled in a full-time PhD program in the Computer Science, Mathematics, or Electrical Engineering department at an accredited university in the US or Canada. Microsoft Research is also pleased to announce the new Microsoft Research Graduate Women's Scholarship Program.
